Two Ways to Live

The Biblical Book of Psalms opens with a short psalm about the 2 ways to live.  Yeah, the psalmist said we only have 2 paths from which to choose.  You might think that is overly simplistic and from a purely human perspective it is.  But the psalmist, who is being guided by the Holy Spirit, is writing God’s point of view.  And He says there are only 2 ways you can go.  You either do it God’s way and be happy & blessed or do it whatever way you would prefer. His way is the right way.  He created you in His image, so it makes sense you’re designed for His way of life.  That means whatever else you choose is classed under the heading of not-godly. 

Take a moment and read Psalm 1, being only 6 verses long so it’s a quick read.  Notice the outcomes He defined for the 2 choices.  The person who believes God, reads and studies God’s word will thrive.  He compares it to a tree planted by rivers of water.  Its roots are anchored in well-watered soil.   That is a nice word picture for God’s word.  It is why it produces Fruit in its season.  A fruitful tree is one that has value, it prospers.  

Whatever other path you follow will not prosper.  You might have a good life for the short time you’ll be on this planet.  You might even achieve fame and wealth.  But when your time is up everything you will have accomplished will be like the inedible husk removed from cereal grains. Your life will not stand up to examination by the Lord.  For the non-believer it's a complete loss. for the one who believed in Jesus Christ it's a loss of abundance in the congregation of the righteous, what we call heaven. 

The way of blessing starts with belief in Jesus Christ for everlasting life.  That secures your future with God.  See it in Jesus Christ’s own words.

John 5:24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”

John 6:47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.
